People in India often eat it with paneer, such as in mater paneer, palak paneer, chole, and many other dishes.

- Then soak the rice in water for 20-25 minutes.
- This step helps remove excess starch from the rice.
Step 2: Cook the Rice:
Now there are two methods to cook rice.
- Either cook the rice and temper it with cumin seeds in ghee.
- Or cook everything together in one pot.
Let's cook the restaurant-style version for a professional touch.
- First heat 4 cups of water in a large deep pan till it boils.
- Then add 1/2 tsp salt and a little oil.
- Then cook the soaked rice till it is 90% done.
- Once the rice is cooked, drain the excess water and keep it aside for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Prepare the Jeera Tempering:
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan and place it on medium flame.
- for us, we may add cumin seeds and let them crack.
- Add overall spices like bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom for extra aroma.
- Sauté until the cumin becomes golden brown, but don't burn the cumin.
Step 4: Combine Rice with Tempering:
- Then add the rice boiled in the tempering and sprinkle some salt for seasoning.
- Then mix it with a spatula so that your rice does not break.
- After mixing, cook it for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
Step 5: Garnish and Serve:
- Turn off the flame.
- Garnish with the chopped coriander leaves.

Tips & Tricks to Make Perfect Jeera Rice
1. Choose the Right Rice: Always use a basmati rice, which is drier and cooks up long and fluffy.
2. Control the Water Ratio: Always maintain the ratio between water and rice at 1:2 (one cup of rice and two cups of water).
3. Don’t Skip Soaking: Because of soaking, rice cooks evenly and is prevented from stickiness.
Use Ghee for Authentic Flavor: Always use ghee for the authentic flavor of tempering.
5. Avoid Over-Stirring: Because over-stirring breaks the rice, so stir gently.
6. Add Whole Spices for a Royal Touch: add whole spices like bay pepper, cardamom, and cloves for the best taste.
7. Rest Before Serving: After cooking the rice, let it rest for 5 minutes for the setting flavor to blend beautifully.
Variations of Jeera Rice:
1. Butter Jeera Rice: using butter instead of ghee for a creamy and soft texture of rice.
2. Masala Jeera Rice: Add finely chopped onion, tomato, and garam masala at the time of tempering.
3. Coconut Jeera Rice: Add some coconut milk for a South Indian touch.
4. Brown Rice Jeera Rice: Use brown rice instead of basmati rice or white rice; it's become a healthy choice.
5. Instant Pot or Cooker Jeera Rice: cook the rice with cumin seeds in a cooker; it's best for busy weeks.
